Woh Bachpan

woh puraani si kitaab
tumhara intezaar karti hai
us diary jisme
tumne do saal
pehle likha tha
uske kaafi panne
abhi bhi khali hai

pukaar ti hai
woh galiyaan tujhe
jimne tune apni zindagi guzari
woh puaarna makaaan
woh chacha ki toffee ki dukaan
aaj bhi wahi hai

chacha ki umar hogayi hai ab
lekin unkio budi aankhein
aaj bhi tujhe
dekhengi toh khush ho jaengi

shayad tere aane se
us gali mai
thodi si bahar aajaegi

Shayad tu bhool chuka hai
bachpan ki woh
bhaag daud aur khel
cycle lekar galiyon ke chakkar katna
kone wali dukaan se
pahiyon mai hawa bharwana

shayad aaj tu bada aadmi ho chuka hai
gaadi mai ghumne wala
bade shehro mai rehne wala

lekin yaad rakh
mez par rakhi
woh puraani si kitaab
woh diary
woh toffee ki dukaan
chacha ki budi aanke
aur woh galiyare
tera aaj bhi intezaar dekhte hai
aaj bhi…..

Arse hue (Hindi Post)

Kabhi toh aao khayalo main
Yahan sunsaani aksar hojati hai
Kabhi toh aao aangan main hamare
Yahan dhoop aksar rehti hai
Na Jaane Kitne arse hue
Is tamanna ko
Ki aaye woh yaha
Zindagi yuhi guzri chali gayi
Na gayi sunsani
Na hi gayi yeh dhoop yaha se

-Jafar Rehman

Kahin

kya tum bhi
so gayi ho
jaise yeh raat
sogayi hai

ya fhir tum isi
chand ki tarah
abhi bhi jaagi ho

abhi bhi ho yahi
ya chali
gayi ho kahi

Metro Ride #521

I got into the metro and the guy ahead of me looks at his reflection and dances. Maybe that’s what late nights do to you, they allow you to be more expressive. Anyway, I get myself a seat and the gate of the metro stays open so that more people can board it, it reminds of those even-odd days in Delhi when bus number 507 that I usually took would stop until they got a good number of passengers on board.

I sit on the seat with an empty mind and stare at my phone. After a few stations, a gentleman comes and sits on the empty seat on my right. He has his headphones on and is listening to Ae Kaash Ke Hum. I used to love that song once but then I listened to it so much that I started disliking it, does it ever happen to you?

So, the metro continues to find its way on those zig-zag tracks until it enters the dark underground tunnel only to move like a snake through its burrow. After two stations, I’ll have to get down and find my way home.

Doors will open, people will board and deboard the metro until this moving box gets to its destination.

Tea Cup- Short story (hindi)

I came to the blog with the determination to write something and then I checked my last post. Guess what, it was on 20th of August, exactly a month ago. In that very post, I had mentioned about writing more frequently which I failed to do. A lot of reasons but let’s not get into that.

I am sharing something I recently wrote, it is in Hindi and is in raw form (not edited). So go ahead, read it and let me know what you think. (Source for photo)

Aadha piya hua chai ka woh cup, mez par rakha tha, chai toh behraal thandi ho chuki thi lekin uska abhi tak koi pata nahi tha. Neeche se achanak kisine awaz lagai thi toh woh daudta hua chala gaya tha. Mujhe lagaa koi khaas azeez aaya hoga aur yahi sochte sochte mujhe kaafi waqt ho gaya lekin koi nahi aaya. Mann mai khayal sa aaya ki uth kar chala jaata hun lekin fhir yaad aaya ki ghar khali tha aur is tarah ghar khula chod jaana theek nahi hoga toh main wapis baith gaya.

Mann behlane ke liye kuch toh karna tha toh waha padhe akhbar ko lekar maine saalo baad khabre padhna shru kiya aur keval istehaar dekh kar woh bhi mez par patak diya. Akhbar se adhi chai ka cup gir gaya aur poori mez par chai fhail gayi. Maine socha lo, yahi baaki tha and yahi soch kar main safai main lag gaya. Itni hi der main ek mohtarma zeene se upar aagayi aur boli Chacha jaan ghar hai kya, maine bola nahi woh nahi hai aap batae kya kaam. Woh thodi der ruki aur fhir boli, aap hai kaun, pehle toh yaha nahi dekha.

Phone uthaya toh……..

Back again

Hey there!

How is life? How are you?

These are the two questions I ask almost everyone and in return, I really expect genuine answers. See, I have told this a lot of times (to myself and to a couple of people) that I am someone who likes conversations. This isn’t a new habit and I have been like this for as long as I can remember.

A few of you who have been my companions through this blog might have an idea about the kind of an individual I am or maybe not. And the only reason you are reading this post is because it is a personal blog. The whole idea of the personal blog is to post stuff that you really want to post. I will have a more serious blog made where I can post serious stuff. How does that sound to you?

When I started this, I made a promise (not really) that I will post whatever I’d want here and so far I’ve followed that. I have posted random stuff, ranging from sad poems to happy poems, photographs, short stories, random stuff I managed to think of and what not?

So, this post is simply to remind you all that I am alive. Yes, I also had received a few messages and a few appreciations (awesome right?). So, a few wonderful people asked me why J isn’t posting enough while some just wrote to tell me that my blog is nice and they liked what they read. All this got me wondering. Let it be, I do wonder a lot anyway.

Here are a few things that you should know:

  1. I haven’t read a book after January this year, bad Reader’s Block and I’m trying to overcome that. Recently picked up ‘The Ministry of Utmost Happiness’ by Arundhati Roy. Go read, ‘God of Small Things’ if you still haven’t from her.
  2. Yeah, that’s pretty much it. This isn’t a gossip. Okay?
  3. You can check my Instagram, I managed to be active there and posted some crazy stuff. (@rehmanjafar)

Now, let me ask you a question- How have you been?

Will be great to reconnect with all of you (new and the old ones). Feel free to comment or write to me at jafarrehman@hotmail.com

Until next time!

Your kind of Monday

Not a Monday but a similar kind of day!

Thoughts Of A Crooked Mind

Hey there, today is Monday and I’m ready to leave for work. You see Mondays are usually disliked by people around the world. This could be because the work starts again, a lot of us go back to the same old routine, that same familiar route, and the same desk.

The desk where you would sit hunched and stare at your laptop, some of you will code while some will make calls and others will switch between Excel sheet and word documents. But then again this is the life that we have made for ourselves. This is how we live, pretty much like Robots but we are aware of our likes and dislikes. However, we do little about it and back in time each one of us started with a dream, with a vision to do something.
I myself had thought that I’ll maybe do creative writing and work for…

Bhaag Daud (Race)

The doors open and you exit only to find others walking in the same direction. Some are running but most of them are rushing and wading their way through others.
Suddenly you see that there is an insane rush on the exit gate and you automatically speed up as if it will have a major impact on your life which we all know is a lie.

File_000.jpeg

A villager lady is at the exit gate trying to figure her way out of the gate but she is clueless with the token in her hand. A few of the dressed up people shout on her while a few are giving her advice. She is panicky and drops her token leading to further delays. This continues for some time and after a while, the station is deserted. A pigeon flys by while the other one is looking for food. They walk all over the floor until the next metro arrives and a hoard of people rush towards the exit gate.

Now as you read this, I want you to move along and be fast because the last thing I want is to be late at the exit gate.

Until next time, my friends. Until next time.

Deaths and Depression

It is actually funny to see people react to a celebrity committing suicide.  Everybody is suddenly aware and cares about this issue.

Now, consider me a sadist or anything but that’s not the point I am trying to make here.  It is perfectly okay to sympathize with the death of a star or some one else but what’s more important is that you need to really really see that depression is a serious issue.

I am sad that Chester Bennington, lead singer of the band called Linkin Park committed suicide the other day. The saddest part was that he was depressed and after reading a couple of posts that surfaced online, I once again realized how bad depression is.

Mental health issues are on the rise and with that what we need is more awareness. We need people to be aware of this and how hard it is to live with depression. It is normal for people to become suicidal and get themselves into one corner. That’s what they do when everything goes bleak and you can’t seem to trust yourself.

I cannot define depression for you but it is something that is very very bad. Now stop being an asshole (if you are being one) or insensitive to people around you.  Treat people with respect and try to understand their point of views.

You might not understand depression but what you can do is be good to others and you’ll end up helping many.

We lost one star today but we lose so many each day to depression. Perfectly healthy and happy people are now becoming depressed, people in their early 20s are affected, lives are becoming meaningless, conversations are going away and there is an insane pressure to live up to certain expectations.

If you are depressed, talk to your parents or to your close friends and it might be challenging for them to understand this but seek help.

If you know someone who’s depressed then be nice to them and keep a positive attitude.

I hope this post makes a difference out there in the world. Do not lose the hope. 🙂

A day

I took the metro after some time again today. A ride that I’ve been taking almost on all weekdays for the past two years now.
Everything felt different and I found myself out of place. On getting out of the metro, people started moving fast leaving me behind. There was a rush at the metro gate and I looked around to find some familiar faces but all I got to see were the tensed faces of people. People who were running late, people who weren’t happy and people who were happy. I don’t know for sure, I just saw and tried reading.

Now I’m writing this in the metro and it’s not as full as it usually is because I left a bit early. I have plenty of space to stand and I had planned to read a book but choose to listen to a few songs.

It’s a normal day in the lives of people in Delhi NCR. Welcome to it.

Thanks for reading one of the random and absurdly ending post. Do tell me how you’ve been.
