Metro Ride #521

I got into the metro and the guy ahead of me looks at his reflection and dances. Maybe that’s what late nights do to you, they allow you to be more expressive. Anyway, I get myself a seat and the gate of the metro stays open so that more people can board it, it reminds of those even-odd days in Delhi when bus number 507 that I usually took would stop until they got a good number of passengers on board.

I sit on the seat with an empty mind and stare at my phone. After a few stations, a gentleman comes and sits on the empty seat on my right. He has his headphones on and is listening to Ae Kaash Ke Hum. I used to love that song once but then I listened to it so much that I started disliking it, does it ever happen to you?

So, the metro continues to find its way on those zig-zag tracks until it enters the dark underground tunnel only to move like a snake through its burrow. After two stations, I’ll have to get down and find my way home.

Doors will open, people will board and deboard the metro until this moving box gets to its destination.

Garmi ka ek din

Hello again. I recently invested in a diary and now my aim is to put it to a good use. Today, I wrote a short story and a sher. Now you will have to wait for the sher because this post will have the story. Read it and let me know your views. 🙂

Delhi

I have been thinking of taking a long exposure photograph from a foot over bridge for quite some time. Today I just happen to be near one of such bridge and I managed to capture this, not my best attempt but an attempt nevertheless.

Also made a short time-lapse video of being stuck in traffic. See here.

I am no Puneet

There is a guy named Puneet out there who looks like me. How do I know about that? Well, let me tell you a story.

I entered this metro and stood to one side knowing very well that it will get crowded soon. After five minutes I realize that this guy sitting on a seat is staring at me, I look at him and he hesitates and then looks away. Then I notice him looking at me again, he is looking at me in the manner of enquiry and I realize that. So I plan to ignore him and continue standing, looking around and observing people.

After a while, he points towards me and says- “Tumhara naam Puneet hai kya?” (Is your name Puneet?), I tell him no and he is like um..Okay. Believe me., he was a little disappointed but that is again life. It is full of disappointments but let’s not get into that. I turned out and laughed it was funny for me.

Well, Mr. Puneet I am not really sure if we look alike or not but that guy did confuse me with you.

Well, Mr. Puneet I am not really sure if we look alike or not but that guy did confuse me with you.
I wish you good luck and I wish that gentleman good luck and he may find you very soon.

*Raises glass* To Puneet and to me!

Bye! my friends, until next random entry here. And yep see this photograph too. 🙂

From the Book Fair

Fast- Photo post

Do back seats of cars have the ability to make you think differently? After clicking this photograph, I started wondering how fast life is going, we all are in a race. We are constantly moving, running and competing. The word purpose makes almost no sense to me now.

That makes me wonder- What is your purpose or aim in life? What are you running after and what is it that you want to achieve?

Enjoy the photograph while you ponder and wonder-

And yeah I need an answer 😉

The incident

Yesterday I boarded the metro and there wasn’t much rush which means that I get space to read. I took my book out from the bag and started reading it, now what happens when I read a book is that my destination arrives faster and it seems that I have skipped many stations, but that is obviously not the case. Anyway, I am reading and there is a guy standing beside me for most of the journey.

Just before my stop, he gets a seat almost in front of me and sits down. After a few minutes, he is staring at the book and then he is staring at me. Not staring but you know he looked at the book and then at me. I was thinking what is wrong with this guy, does he like the book or he wants it? But then I saw his confused face and it occurred to me that I was reading ‘Murder on the Orient Express‘ by Agatha Christie. So you get it? Me reading a book about the murder on some other express while I am in the metro, that guy must be wondering what is happening.

I closed my book and went towards the door and de-boarded the metro to get to work.

You can buy the book here.

Buses and even odd

There is odd-even happening in Delhi between 15th – 30th April. Cars with even numbers are allowed on even dates and odd numbered cars on odd dates. This means a large number of people start using buses and other public transport. Now, most buses are usually crowded almost on every work day but it is my belief that it gets worse during this phase. This morning I boarded a super crowded bus because I had no other options, I simply didn’t know when the other one would come and I was getting late.

I grabbed the door and got into the bus and couldn’t go far because there was no space and everyone stood in weird positions, just a few kilometers and it might get better was my thought. But then comes the next stop and some people board the bus and surprisingly I see myself moving inside, one leg moves and then two others and yes I am now in the middle with my bag in my hand and I navigate and find a position that is comfortable enough for me so I can stand with my head free but I was sandwiched for most of the journey. This sums up the journey I guess.

Now coming to the photograph. I took this other night while returning home. I was late and the bus wasn’t crowded, so I read The Book Thief for a while and then I started taking photographs. I am almost done with that book and might even write something about it. Next, I am going to pick up Sherlock Holmes!

Metro Morning

I wanted to post here for a long time and for once if you have read some of my previous posts, you would want to shoot me right now. Why? Because I say the same darn thing all the time. I know that is old and I need a new statement to support my absence here *completely ignoring the fact that nobody really cares*

So, today I can talk about my day, because that usually gives me something to talk and write about and you for once get to know about a day in my life. No I am not telling you everything about my day but only a thing or two. I will choose the interesting part or will try and make it interesting. That works? I am talking to myself, yes!

I will talk about the metro rides to work. In the morning as I wait for the metro to arrive, I walk from one point to another and then I take a glance at my watch and I repeat the same thing. I observe people exiting other trains, getting down from stairs, some are in rush while some are literally pushing themselves to move. If you see things in a different manner, they start appearing either funny or you start seeing everyone as an individual( if you are watching people). Now you might be thinking, that’s nonsense. How can I see them as individuals, aren’t they individuals already? But you didn’t see them that way, I didn’t at least. They were just a bunch of people, a blob moving from point A to B or from A to C.

But as I was waiting for my metro to come, I saw each person and studied them. The expressions on their faces, their face reflecting lack of sleep, lack of will to go to work, some smiled and that too genuinely while some rushed because they were late and would probably be getting a lecture from their seniors. Oh well, there is so much variety.

Then my metro came and I got in after calculating what coach would have some free space so that I could take my book out which was The Book Theif and read it. I did get a place and I read my book. Good journey? Yes!

Ahead- Photo Post

Took this photograph while I went out for a walk after working for almost all day. Just took my camera before leaving and made this image.

This photo was very well received on 500px and reached Popular in under 15 minutes. Taken with Nikon 50mm f1.8G mounted on Nikon D3200. For HD version, see it on full screen on 500px, click here.DSC_0021.jpg

Inside the lane

image

“Inside the lane” as I like to call this photograph. I wanted to go to a shop and one of the Dates(khujoor) vendor told me there is a shortcut from one side. I took the way and entered here, the lane that took me to a bazaar that was so crowded that you’d have to struggle to move from one shop to another.  The amazing thing here is that when you look at this photograph you see silence, peace and stillness while there is a crowd moving about just outside this gate.
