Deaths and Depression

It is actually funny to see people react to a celebrity committing suicide.  Everybody is suddenly aware and cares about this issue.

Now, consider me a sadist or anything but that’s not the point I am trying to make here.  It is perfectly okay to sympathize with the death of a star or some one else but what’s more important is that you need to really really see that depression is a serious issue.

I am sad that Chester Bennington, lead singer of the band called Linkin Park committed suicide the other day. The saddest part was that he was depressed and after reading a couple of posts that surfaced online, I once again realized how bad depression is.

Mental health issues are on the rise and with that what we need is more awareness. We need people to be aware of this and how hard it is to live with depression. It is normal for people to become suicidal and get themselves into one corner. That’s what they do when everything goes bleak and you can’t seem to trust yourself.

I cannot define depression for you but it is something that is very very bad. Now stop being an asshole (if you are being one) or insensitive to people around you.  Treat people with respect and try to understand their point of views.

You might not understand depression but what you can do is be good to others and you’ll end up helping many.

We lost one star today but we lose so many each day to depression. Perfectly healthy and happy people are now becoming depressed, people in their early 20s are affected, lives are becoming meaningless, conversations are going away and there is an insane pressure to live up to certain expectations.

If you are depressed, talk to your parents or to your close friends and it might be challenging for them to understand this but seek help.

If you know someone who’s depressed then be nice to them and keep a positive attitude.

I hope this post makes a difference out there in the world. Do not lose the hope. 🙂

Issue that needs attention

Isn’t it amazing to see so many people opening up on those youtube videos that talk about depression?  A lot of people describe their experience in the comments and some people are able to relate to it. On the very same video, you will find some comments that are hard to understand and a few people say that it’s something made up and depression doesn’t really exist. Basically, you see a large amount of variation there and imagine that happening in real life, imagine people around you being that ignorant. The worst would be you and I being that ignorant about other people’s life and their issues.

What if we all could stop being ignorant (doesn’t happen right away) and start treating each other with respect and no I am not only talking about men respecting women or vice versa but what I am talking about is different. Now, I might know next to nothing about depression, anxiety or stress but it is something that can hit anyone and at any age. There is no particular age or gender, it can happen to children, males, females and even to animals.

What is the new culture that we are forming and supporting where making fun of someone is considered great, laughing at the expense of someone else is considered great? I might have indulged myself in that kind of behavior but then again I have been treated the same way numerous times. I know it doesn’t allow me or anyone else to do the similar thing but that is what we have been encouraging for so long that we have started accepting it something which is very normal. That is sad, very sad.

What we need now is the maturity to understand that this is a serious issue and we need to move beyond our beliefs that depression is just sadness. We need to educate ourselves, our parents, our friends and everyone around us and erase the stigma that surrounds this issue. It is okay to be depressed and it is completely okay to seek help for it.

If you know someone who has been depressed then realize that it is an issue that needs attention. There are these two foundations that I found, you can visit the websites and even refer people to it.

A request.

A request to all those who are reading this article here-Please,please do not ever be depressed. It is bad, depression is doing you no good and it will ruin you,you will lose your hair, weight and confidence(which I am sure doesn’t even sound good) and you will waste so much of potential.

Depression as defined by Oxford Dictionary

NOUN

Now,if you are really depressed then you might think how can you be important?Or you might say I am not even good at anything how can I possibly contribute in anything at all.But believe me you can and you will, just believe in it for now.Just don’t let yourself go into depression it’s a deep pit and a slippery one.Go out on a walk, listen to music, exercise,go to gym, write, read, watch movies or even seek professional help if you have to.

Mr.Robin Williams a very famous and talented actor and I admired him deeply was depressed  as some website quote it.Read this –

(CNN) — The tragic death of Robin Williams has once again taught us a bitter lesson: Depression does not discriminate, cannot be bargained with and shows no mercy

I am no expert but I just want to help, maybe even make a difference in someone’s life, maybe save someone.Do not waste all of the potential you have,do not hold yourself in the corner, live to contribute and to love and to see the wonders of the world.I may not know the reason of your depression but I think you can rise over it.You can just believe in yourself.
