What is Art?

Yesterday I was somewhere and we were asked to define art. What is art?
Around 20-25 people in the room went silent,we were all artists there but we couldn’t define art. Then someone said it’s something new,I contributed by saying it is something pleasing to eyes. Another guy added – it is also pleasing to ears, in case of music. And there were a lot of definitions of art given.
We could go by the definition of art,we could follow rules of particular art to make it but I refuse to believe in any single definition and rule. There are no rules when you create art. It is freedom, is it not?
What is art to you?

  1. I agree. Art is freedom. Freedom to say what you feel, be it through music, poetry or through the brush strokes on a canvas. It’s a way to let out all those unspoken thoughts and emotions.

  2. I think one reason art is difficult to define is because of its emotional connection to something. It’s a feeling that comes from the heart that inspires you and then depending on what it is, you see, hear, taste, smell or touch it. Art comes in many forms that is sometimes indescribable. Great question.

    1. Glad you liked the question.
Art does have emotional connection and at times when you hear a wonderful song or even tune you feel the wave going in your body,it shakes you.
It is a great point that you put here.Art is wonderful.

The definition of art as per “Deidara“; If you’ve watched the anime cartoon “Naruto”. I don’t know why but I can’t forget that line.
